Our choir is made up of four vocal sections, grouped roughly by how high or low you sing comfortably:

• High tenor (Tenor 1) – the highest voices in the choir, singing the brighter, higher melody and harmony lines

• Low tenor (Tenor 2) – still in the higher range, but a little lower, blending beautifully with our Tenor 1 friends

• Baritone – the middle-to-lower range, sitting comfortably between the tenors and the bass

• Bass – the lowest voices, providing the deep foundation the whole choir is built on

If you have no idea where you belong, that's completely fine — most people don't when they start!

Our Musical Director, Ursula, will help place you during your very first rehearsal, so there's nothing to figure out on your own beforehand.

Many of our new members have never sung in a choir before, and plenty can't read sheet music — and that's genuinely okay.

We provide practice tracks for every part, which make it easy to learn your lines at home, at your own pace. If you can play a recording and sing along, you can sing with us.

We welcome new members without auditions. Just complete the membership form, turn up, and we'll take care of the rest.

The best time of year for any new member is late January/early February.

Each year, Low Rez learns a brand-new set of songs, and the whole choir starts that repertoire together at the beginning of the year. Join early and you'll learn at the same pace as everyone else, with no pressure to catch up.

Joining later is still possible — but if you're newer to singing, it can be harder once the choir has already memorised most of the year's songs.

Whatever brings you to us — building your music skills, the mental health benefits of singing, or simply finding a like-minded community — we want your first experience to feel good, not overwhelming.

So if you're thinking of joining later in the year, you’re very welcome to try out and see what we do, but if you can’t be performance ready, consider coming along to volunteer with us until the new year begins. You'll make connections and get a feel for the choir, then dive into the new repertoire fresh — never feeling behind.

We rehearse every Tuesday night, 7:00pm – 9:30pm in St Kilda, a 5 minute walk from the Inkerman St/St Kilda Rd tram stop

Once a month, each section also has its own sectional rehearsal, where you'll focus on your part in a smaller group.

Don’t want to sing, but want to contribute? We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help at our events.
